This the unique opportunity to get in touch with the old kingdom of Zanskar with its people and rich culture. We offer to stay for 8 days in Jamyang Ling/ Reru and visit the impressive monasteries of Phuktal, Barden and Mune Gompa to experience Tibetan Buddhism which is still very alive in this part of Zanskar. We can experience the fascinating part of the Indian Himalayas, which often has been labeled “Small Tibet”, by our homestay in Reru and by our 8 day trekking across the Shingo-La pass (5.150 m) to Darcha and onwards to Manali.
After our 3 day stay in the old caravan city of Leh we drive by bus to the 1000 years old cite of Alchi and on to Rangdum Gompa to arrive at our destination at the village of Reru. While stying for 8 days we have lots of opportunities to meet the cultural and religious life of the people which is deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhism. We will live in comfortable tents above the village near a small lake and be part of daily life of the village and be close to the project of Jamyang Ling in all its facets.
Along with monks we will discuss the principals of the sand mandala of Avalokiteshvara and dissolve it in a ceremony. We will give an introduction of the structure and meaning of the Stupa which is located on a hill opposite the school. On our trekking tour to Darcha and Manali we will stay 2 days on the campsite of Purne and visit the nearby famous mountain monastery of Phuktal Gompa. As we do know and support the monks of this monastery for very long time and as we offered several retreats in Doelma Rangon cave nearby we are sure that many doors will open up for us. Geshe Nawang Tenzin who is the representative of the monastery will guide us and disclose the historic and religious menaing of this outstanding mystic place.
Introduction into Tibetan Buddhism, daily meditation and sharing will set a frame for our trekking days and stay in Reru.
Additionally there will be enough free time for own and personal encounters and acitivities. On our last day in Reru we take part in a cultural program with Zanskari dances and songs offered by students of Jamyang Ling and the villagers.
The intention of Zanskar Special is to invite all those people interested both in trekking and cultural aspects. In addition to the trekking part we offer the possibility to return to Leh by jeep and continue and join the group in Manali.
In 2013 we had been blessed with the presence of our very special friend Tenzin Nyima Rinpoche residing in the South Indian monastery Tashilunpo. We are close to his family since many years and witnessed his birth and childhood. He is now 16 years of age recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the reincarnation of old Lama Dorje Bhulu from Ladakh. As a special guest he joined the anniversary of Jamyang Ling in 2013 and assisted in drawing the sand mandala of Avalokiteshvara. It will be dissolved ritually in august 2016 by monks of Mune Gompa.top
