Trekking - Meditation - Living in Zanskar

By staying 3 days in Jamyang Ling/ Reru this Zanskar Intensive Tour offers the opportunity to get to know more about the old kingdom of Zanskar with its people and their culture, to visit the impressive monasteries of Lingshed, Karsha, Bardan and Mune Gompa and to experience the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism that is still vibrantly alive in this region.

This part of the Indian Himalayas is quite fascinating and called ‚Little Tibet‘. After our stay in Reru we will explore breathtakeing mountains and sights during Trekking for 11 days across the Kanji-La –Pass (5.150m) to Lamayuru and on to Leh.

Tour Description

After three days of visiting the old caravan town of Leh we will drive by bus to Lamayuru via Alchi. In the midst of an endless wilderness of mountains this monastery rises majestically on the top of a mountain and offers nonforgettable views. Thousands of years ago there had been a lake around that mountain that later dried. Bizar forms of rocks, reminding one of some moon landscape, let the lake still be recognized till now. Over the centuries the old caravan road from Srinagar/Kashmir to Leh had been leading along the prayerwheels and chörten in this area.

Passing Kargil and Rangdum Gompa we reach our main goal, the village of Reru. We will spend three days here, having lots of opportunities to get to know the country, the people and their way to live and being part of their cultural and religious traditions and rituals.

We will live in comfortable tents on a lake above the village, take part in the life of he villagers and be very close to the project Jamyang Ling by intensive encounters with the children, teachers and their daily school routine.

Introduction into Buddhism, a daily programme with meditation and sharing will create the frame for our days of trekking and our stay in Reru. Still there will be enough time and space for personal encounters and activities. On our last day in Reru we are having the exciting opportunity to experience a cultural programme with traditional Zanskari dances and chants, offered by villagers and students of Jamyang Ling.
